The Texas AG agrees with shared parenting

Any non-custodial parent will tell you that the AG couldn’t give a flip about your relationship with your child. It exists solely to fleece you for child welfare, otherwise known as “child support”. There’s a 1-800 number to call if your ex isn’t paying CS, and the AG will swoop in with a team of lawyers and will unceremoniously work to have your ex thrown in jail because, that helps the children, right? Right.

If your ex is withholding your child, they also have a 1-800 number, and when you call, they refer you back to…call a lawyer. And to spend thousands (which you don’t have) to see your kid. Then when you can’t hire the lawyer and your ex still withholds, the AG calls the local news stations and plasters your face on the evening news and labels you a dead-beat dad (one of my FAVORITE terms).

That said, the AG got asked through legal briefs to clarify its stance on the parent-child relationship. The AG’s office answered. When I was done laughing, I was struck by the absolute truth that they spit out, though it’s 100% lip service.

My favorite gem:

““The State has no clear reason to force itself into a family when a fit parent is fulfilling his obligation to care for his child. This is an overreach that infringes on the fundamental right of parents to raise their children. Parents’ rights to act in the best interest of their child must be honored,” said Attorney General Paxton.”

So the AG agrees that the State should not inject itself into a loving relationship with a child. Yet the State does exactly that. Daily.

Ex accused you of drug use (without proof)? They take your child.

Ex says that you are “dangerous” (without proof)? They take your child.

Ex says that your new girlfriend is nuts (simply because)? They take your child.

The list is endless. Our ability to raise our children without governmental intrusion is protected by the Constitution – yet it happens every day.

REFORM MUST HAPPEN. And SOON.
